Pflugerville defeats Wildcats, Lady Cats

Elgin’s varsity basketball teams both suffered defeats from the Pflugerville Panthers last Tuesday. 

The Wildcats traveled to Pflugerville to play the Panthers on Tuesday, January 5 for an away conference game. The Wildcats lost 54-33 to Pflugerville.

Highlights of the game for Elgin, according to MaxPreps, include a steal and a block by shooting guard Josh Sides (#5) in the first quarter; a steal by power forward Bo Gary (#4) and a three-pointer by point guard Nathen Lewis (#10) in the second quarter; and a three-pointer by Sides and a steal by small forward Peter McFarlin (#31).

The Wildcats are currently ranked seventh in the district, with a 0-3 district record and a 2-9 overall record this season.

The Lady Cats varsity basketball team also lost their match against Pflugerville. They played the Lady Panthers at home in a conference game last Tuesday evening, January 5.

The Lady Cats were able to keep the Lady Panthers at bay for the first quarter with a series of steals; both teams only gained three points in the first quarter. The Lady Panthers caught up in the second quarter, however, earning twice as many points as Elgin during that quarter. Pflugerville pulled far ahead of the Lady Cats in the third quarter, earning 23 points to Elgin’s six. Both teams ended the game with single-digit points in the fourth quarter: four for Elgin, nine for Pflugerville. Ultimately, the Lady Panthers more than doubled the Lady Cats’ score, resulting in a 31-71 loss for Elgin.

Highlights of the game for Elgin, according to MaxPreps, include two steals by Tianna Upton (#22), a three-pointer by Natasha Stafford (#23) and a steal each by Anaya Freeman (#32), Cpeeritt Plummer (#21) and small forward Paige Bailey (#3) in the first quarter; and a three-pointer by Mackenzie Farris (#25) in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Cats are currently ranked fifth in the district, with a 2-3 district record and a 4-7 overall record this season.

Both teams were scheduled to play the Manor Mustangs on Friday evening; however, the games were postponed.

Next, the Wildcats are scheduled to play a home district game against the Pflugerville Connally Cougars on Friday, January 15 at 8 p.m. The Lady Cats will play a home game against Pflugerville Weiss on Tuesday, January 12 at 7 p.m., then will travel to Pflugerville to play the Lady Cougars in an away district game on Friday, January 15 at 8 p.m.
