May 2022 Election: Mary Alice Penson
Elgin ISD District 7
What made you want to run for this position?
I have interest and concern for our education system and for our children as well as our teachers.
What kind of experience - educational, professional or personal - do you bring to this position?
I have similar experiences from being on the City Council for eight years. I have represented the citizens who live in Ward 1 while making decisions that were best for the City of Elgin and all citizens. I was on the school bond committee in which we got two bonds passed. I have also been on other committees with the school. I was an active parent and a volunteer. I attended EISD for every grade. I am ready and willing to work with others to get what’s needed for our students and staff done to the best of my ability.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Elgin ISD?
I think growth is a challenge for our school district as well as teachers and space.
How do you expect Elgin ISD to adapt as Bastrop County’s population grows? Where do you see the school district in five years?
EISD have passed two bonds to build two new elementary schools and update/upgrade current schools. EISD works well with the City of Elgin. Our mantra is One Town, One Team One Family! In five years I see these schools built and the upgrades/updates all completed and working towards more buildings and staff for more growth.
What is one issue you want to fix or improve if you take office?
I would like to build upon the work that’s already going on now. I would like to see our school board, staff, students and parents work together for the greater good of everyone.
Why should the voters choose you? What sets you apart from your opponent?
I am interested, focused and concerned about our EISD and our future! I have years of experience and I’m available!
Any other information you would like to share with voters?
Everyone should want to better our EISD for a better student experience! EISD offers lots of opportunities for our students. I want to be a part of the growth and development of something greater than before!
