After months of public information requests and social media posts, a group of citizens brought complaints and allegations against city officials regarding the police department during last week’s Elgin City Council meeting.
The public comment portion of last Tuesday’s meeting began with the reading of a statement sent in by 21 people. The statement expressed support for the Concerned Citizens of Elgin, a group that has been requesting and gathering documents through public information requests, and asked the council for an external i nvestigation of Police Chief Patrick South and city manager Thomas Mattis.
