Elgin receives $50,000 grant for outdoor classroom

The City of Elgin was awarded a $50,000 T-Mobile Hometown grant to convert an undeveloped, city-owned lot in the 200 block of Depot Street in the downtown historic district into an accessible outdoor classroom with public Wi-Fi and shade.“Elgin has two public locations that offer free accessible Wi-Fi. For a community of 10,000, that’s unacceptable. We are glad to be working with T-Mobile and this grant to create a welcoming, comfortable space for our whole community with free access to Wi-Fi,” said Elgin Mayor Ron Ramirez.T-Mobile announced the 25 small towns nationwide winning Hometown Grants to jumpstart vital community development projects to re-energize ...
