The Bastrop County Democratic Party (BCDP) has elected Steve Chamberlain as the new party chair after Cheryl Reese stepped down to run for Bastrop County Precinct 4 Commissioner.

Chamberlain and his wife Sharon moved to Bastrop County in 2016 to be closer to family in Austin. After attending a Bernie Sanders rally in 2016, he met members of BCDP and became active with the group. Steve worked with the group and served as a precinct chair and BCDP vice-chair prior to his election as chair.

“Being a precinct chair and vice county chair, I have learned a lot more about how our government works and the process involved with testifying before the legislature,” Chamberlain said. “I’ve also learned that anyone can speak before the Bastrop County Commissioners Court and can be involved with the changes in regulations that affect us all. Being involved is worth the effort.”

Before arriving in Bastrop, he worked for 22 years at the United States Postal Service where he served as a union shop steward advocating for the rights of workers. After leaving USPS, he worked for 20 years as a customer service representative with Halliburton.

Chamberlain can be reached at or 817-360-0678.

More filings will be announced as they occur, according to the Bastrop County Democratic Party. The upcoming primary election will be held on March 3, 2020.
