In anticipation of the city’s anniversary of its founding in 1872, the Elgin City Council allocated funds to celebrate the historical milestone at the December 7 meeting.At its October 12 meeting, the council created a committee to organize the celebration of Elgin’s sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary, throughout 2022. After meeting with the committee chairs, staff proposed to make $100,000 available to the Elgin Sesquicentennial Committee to spend on the various activities and projects throughout 2021.
