City apologizes, sends revised code enforcement letters

After an outcry over code enforcement letters sent to buildings damaged by the recent tornado requiring their demolition within 60 days, the City of Elgin sent revised letters that give property owners an option to get a building permit instead.An EF-2 tornado cut through the Elgin area on March 21, destroying several homes and damaging many more.
