Last month, the Elgin Police Department released its latest annual report analyzing the demographics of people involved in traffic stops in Elgin. The report found EPD to be in compliance with the law and has incorporated policies to ensure against tolerating racial profiling.
Every year, all eligible law enforcement departments are required by the Texas Racial Profiling Law to collect and report on data analyzing traffic stops in order to look for any possible racial bias in policing. Police Chief Patrick South presented the 2018 Elgin Police Department report to the Elgin City Council during its regular meeting on March 5.
