A new initiative is providing free breast cancer screenings for Bastrop County women who need them, as well as encouraging women to “pinky promise” to get a screening. The Pinky Promise initiative is a collaboration between the Dell Medical School, Bastrop County Cares and the Austin Area Research Organization. Over the past two years, a six-county coalition has been promoting early breast cancer screening in underserved areas, particularly rural areas and minority women who are uninsured, said Dr. Linda Ornelas Wilson.
