What made you want to run for this position?

I'm an immigrant from Mexico, I'm living the American dream, and I'm grateful to this country. I'm doing this out of gratitude for my community and country.

What kind of experience - educational, professional or personal - do you bring to this position?

I'm a mother of three children, one in college, one in high school and one in junior high. I will bring the experience of a mom that cares deeply about the children in Smithville to the board. I have been a volunteer in my school district for seven years and I have learned what it needs to be improved. I have been working with children for 20 years in Sunday school programs, Vacation Bible schools, Volunteer time at my school district and community service, I have a special love for children and I care for their integrity and wellbeing.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Smithville ISD?

1: Teachers retention

2: Growth

3: Transparency

How do you expect Smithville ISD to adapt as Bastrop County’s population grows? Where do you see the city in five years?

Our school district will need to build another elementary school.

In five years, I see our school district thriving through a parental involvement program that the school district will establish after the school board approves it, these will bring benefit and prosperity to every student in our town, to education, our community and our country. Overall the PI program will establish transparency and increased communication with parents and teachers.

What is one issue you want to fix or improve if you take office?

Our school district desperately needs a strong parental involvement program and I will bring these issues to the School board.

Why should the voters choose you? What sets you apart from your opponent?

I'm a mom, I love children and know how to care for them. As an immigrant I value this country and the opportunities and blessings children have here, I have been advocating in my school district for seven years for programs and curriculums that will benefit our children and I will continue my work in my community to go in pursuit of what is best for the families of Smithville Texas. I'm bilingual and this brings diversity to the school board.

Any other information you would like to share with voters?

It is important to recognize the talents of the other school board members in our school district, they are CEO, CFO, etc. We don't want a board full of corporate executives, we need mothers that will bring life, love, care and nurture to all of our students.
