May 2022 Election: Angie Edmon

Elgin ISD District 4 (Incumbent)

Article Image Alt Text

What made you want to run for this position?

After serving for several years on a Campus Advisory Committee for Neidig Elementary I was looking for more ways to serve and be involved in the community and school district. I was contacted by several people from the community, school and city leadership encouraging me to consider serving as a trustee. I knew that EISD was on track for growth and greatness, but also facing some challenges. After gaining a better understanding of what a trustee's role and responsibility was, I felt like that was something I would really like to be involved in and have done my best to serve with our student's best interest in mind.

What kind of experience - educational, professional or personal - do you bring to this position?

At this point, I bring the value of two terms of experience, education and understanding to this position.

Additionally I bring over 30 years of leadership, teamwork and teambuilding and problem solving experience. In my role as a church leader I have vast experience in working with and caring for a diverse group of people and helping them grow.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Elgin ISD?

I think we must focus and prioritize assessing and meeting the needs of our student population after the challenges that we have faced the last two years. Our students are facing gaps in their instruction, their social needs and skills and even their mental wellbeing. We really need to shore up and firm up all foundational areas in order to best build for the future!

How do you expect Elgin ISD to adapt as Bastrop County’s population grows? Where do you see the school district in five years?

Based on all the current indicators and predictions our school district is in a rapid growth cycle. We will be executing the current bond that we have passed and keeping a close eye on the upcoming needs and growth of our district, working to stay ahead of those needs as best as possible. In five years, the size, pace and makeup of EISD will likely be very different than it is today and most certainly different that what it has ever been before. My goal would be that as we move forward into new times for this district - we do so with a firm hold on the core values that make this community great! That we stand on the shoulders of those that have established such wonderful tradition and culture...and reach for the stars!

What is the accomplishment you are most proud of during your time in office?

I am very proud of the advancement of our district has made in its ability to offer multiple paths for our students to choose from. Early college credit which can include graduating with an associates degree, four-year university readiness as well as multiple vocational tracks and certifications. Helping our students find what fits them and then offering them tools and support to prepare for their next season is life changing for many of our students who may not otherwise have that exposure and those opportunities. EISD is truly changing lives!

Why should the voters choose you? What sets you apart from your opponent?

I bring experience, integrity, dependability and vision to this position. I feel like I am well equipped to be a problem solver and someone who can work well with others to overcome obstacles towards a common goal.
