Traveling exhibit opens at Elgin Depot Museum

A special exhibit has opened at the Depot Museum. “Freedom Colonies of Bastrop County” is on loan from the Bastrop County Historical Society for three months. It is an incredible piece of research on the many ‘freedom colonies’ that sprang up after the Emancipation was announced in Texas. There is a large map, outlines of areas and family names common in each colony. It will be here until the end of January. Bring a friend. The 20th anniversary of the Sowpremes is also being celebrated at the Depot Museum until October 31. Beautiful glitzy costumes are on display! The museum is open Wednesday through Friday ...
