Portrait moved from Capitol to county museum

This portrait of Claudia Wilbarger Norvell is the latest acquisition to the Bastrop County Historical Society Museum. The portrait was donated to the museum and was restored for the unveiling on Sunday, February 23. The portrait previously hung in the Senate Chambers of the Texas State Capitol. Norvell, who is known as “The Savior of El Camino Real King’s Highway,” was born in Bastrop. She led the charge for over three decades to mark and perpetuate the highway with granite markers to identify its historical significance. Photos by Dock Jackson ...
