New Sweden church to sing, celebrate St. Lucia

A traditional holiday celebration and recognition of a unique saint will be this Sunday.New Sweden Lutheran Church will have its Country Christmas Sing-A-Long Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. The church is at 12809 New Sweden Church Road in Manor.The sing-a-long includes the Swedish tradition of remembering Saint Lucia.“It is a tradition in Sweden with an abiding role as a bearer of light in the dark Swedish winters,” said Barbara Carisalez, New Sweden Lutheran Church secretary. “Wearing a white gown with a red sash and a crown of candles on her head, she walks at the head of a procession of children, each holding a candle.”This year’s St.
