On Saturday, the Elgin Public Library celebrated Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a multi-day traditional Mexican holiday celebrated at the end of October and beginning of November in which people remember and celebrate their loved ones who have passed away. The day featured an opportunity to decorate calaveras, or sugar skulls, face painting, and a performance by dancers from Elgin's Ballet Folklorico group.
