May is Historic Preservation Month, and while Elgin celebrates the social, cultural, and economic benefits of preservation year-round, we would like to highlight the groups and events that promote pride in the history of our community.Elgin Sesquicentennial: Elgin was established in 1872 on the Houston and Texas Central Railroad as a one square mile area around the H&TC Depot and was named for Robert Morris Elgin, the railroad’s land commissioner.
