The second annual Coupland Civic Organization (CCO) Golf Tournament fundraiser was Saturday, May 18, at Taylor’s Mustang Creek Golf Club.
First place was captured by the Sandbagger team with members Jesse Randall, Keith Kuzel, Justin Tucker and Paul Yockey. The Black Stallion team of Robert Lopez, Lee Martinez, Adan Ascanio and Keith Repa won second. The Black Stallion team also came in second last year at the first CCO golf tournament. Third place was Out of Phase with Charley Keating, Jim Smetzer, Scott Herzog and Michael Renner. Other teams were Danny Hughes Insurance, Mullets, Pied Pipers, Wright & Greenhill/ Taylor Press and Wildfire Lawn Company.
Winning the closest to the pin contest was Keith Repa, and longest drive winner was Sean Pavlicek.
This year, Ewald Kubota sponsored a trophy. Winners’ names will be engraved on the trophy, which will be on display at Ewald Kubota’s Taylor location until next year’s tournament.
The CCO greatly appreciates our sponsors. Jay Sutton, an Edward Jones financial advisor from Elgin, was the overall tournament sponsor. Sponsoring holes were Citizens National Bank, Central Security, Coupland Veterinary Hospital (Dr. Graef), Danny Hughes Insurance, McCrary Insurance Agency, Old Coupland Inn & Dancehall, Patschke & Patschke Real Estate, Plant Process Equipment, Solid Tattoo, Williamson County Equipment and Williamson County Grain.
Solid Tattoo sponsored closest to the pin. The CCO sponsored the longest drive, and board members contributed door prizes. Associate sponsors were Burrow Chiropractic Clinic, Taylor Duck Car Wash, Ewald Kubota and Sirloin Stockade. Taylor Duck Car Wash and Ewald Kubota also donated door prizes. Following the tournament, everyone enjoyed a build-your-own sandwich lunch with homemade cookies.
The CCO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and funds raised by the golf tournament go to maintain the historic Coupland Depot and Caboose. The third annual CCO Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 16, 2020.
