A bloody start for a bloody finish

Posted in:

While our secular calendar marks Jan. 1 as “New Year’s Day,” in the Christian Church, this day is the festival of “The Circumcision and Naming of Jesus,” since Jewish babies were circumcised on the eighth day after birth. On Jan. 1, we celebrate Jesus having a bloody start to His life that pointed forward to the bloody finish He would accomplish 30-odd years later for us men and our salvation. From the minute He was given the Name Jesus, His bloody fate was sealed. The name Jesus means “the Lord saves,” and the angel had announced that He would “save His people from their sins.”
