A special version of Elgin’s monthly stroll through downtown will feature a holiday flavor Thursday.

Sip Shop & Stroll will be Dec. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. on Main Street in Elgin. The Elgin Farmers Market and many downtown businesses will be open sharing live music, holiday specials, refreshments, and wine and beer samples.

The Elgin Courier, 105 N. Main St., will also be open for Sip Shop and Stroll and offer much of the same. The Elgin High School Choir will be in the office singing. People can tour the building to see and take photos with the Elgin Sesquicentennial mural, which features a look back at historical issues of the paper and a railroad painting dating back to Elgin’s beginning to this year’s historical landmark. Issues of the Courier’s Sesquicentennial edition, which offers a look back at Elgin history, will also be available. While visiting, residents can subscribe to the newspaper and enter into a drawing for a new TV.

Sip Shop & Stroll is a collaborative effort between the Main Street Board, Elgin’s municipal government and the Elgin Chamber of Commerce.

Downtown Elgin will continue with holiday spirt with the Art of Giving Saturday, Dec. 10. Businesses will be partnering with local artists and feature nonprofit organizations. Consider a handcrafted artisan gift and giving back to a local nonprofit. Enjoy a showcase of unique handcrafted items from local artists in the Elgin area and nonprofit organizations benefiting the local community. The Clever Tiger Gallery & Studio will feature an artist collective, and Studio 621 will be open with artists sharing their creations.
