In place of the usual 4th of July parade or the Chalk It Up art competition, the Elgin Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a reverse 4th of July parade and an online chalk art competition this month. Participants are encouraged to build a “parade float” or 4th of July parade in their front yard through July 10, and decorate their driveway or sidewalks with their best chalk art through July 15, then send photographs to parks@ci.elgin.tx.us. Here, Elgin Parks & Recreation front desk s taff members decorate the sidewalk just outside of the Elgin Recreation Center with festive and patriotic chalk art last week. Staff members involved include Terrie Chavez, Audree Hernandez, Jessica Gomez, Jamarion Hart and Marti Roper.
