The Wildcats played a close game against Georgetown, but the Eagles escaped Elgin with a narrow 45-40 win Friday night.

Elgin matched the Eagles in the first quarter and took a three-point lead into the break after a quick open basket from Declayvin Simmons off the in-bounds pass as time expired.

To open the second half, Georgetown went on a 9-3 run to take the 27-23 lead with two minutes left in the third quarter.

The Wildcats were able to close the gap to three points with the final eight minutes on the clock.

A free throw from Simmions put the Wildcats’ within two points of the Eagles, but Georgetown continued to score on the opposite end and held off Elgin in the final two minutes.

In a game at Cedar Creek that was pushed back a day due to weather, Elgin topped the other Eagles of District 19-5A, 61-48 at Cedar Creek.

After finishing the first quarter in a 16-16 tie, the Wildcats went on a 15-5 run in the final quarter to secure the victory.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 5-5 in district action, and fifth place behind Rouse, Cedar Park, Connally and Hutto with five games left to play.
