A man was fatally shot and a woman was sent to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg on Sunday, Feb. 10. The incident took place during a confirmation party for a 16-year-old at 126 South SH 95.
According to Elgin police, Hilarion Alvarado Crieta, 42, of Manor, Texas, was killed during the incident. The suspect was identified as Pascual Sanchez Carbajal, 48, of Pflugerville, Texas.
An unrelated female was taken to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.
Witnesses reported that the gunman and victim came to the party together and at around 8:30 p.m., Carbajal went to the vehicle and retrieved a .45 caliber pistol. He then reportedly returned to the party, shot Crieta in the back and fired at least twice at the party goers. One woman received a gunshot wound to the leg.
Carbajal reportedly tried to turn the gun on himself, but was detained by other party goers until police arrived to arrest him.
The party was a celebration for a confirmation that took place Friday evening and many of the party goers were juveniles ranging in age from 1 to 16.
